A message from Michaela Lamoureux, President of Hi-Speed Hounds:

I rescue Greyhounds, and consider them to be the best-kept secret of the canine world. It is our mission to save these wonderful dogs and we will do whatever it takes to ensure that they are treated with love and respect. I spend a good part of my days trying to help other Greyhound rescue groups, learning as much as I can about them, and I share my vast knowledge by educating others.

Hi-Speed Hounds fully supports every household that each Greyhound is placed with and encourages them to become part of our extended family. I work hard at carefully placing each ‘hound in a home where it will be a good fit with its new family. I am always there if one needs to come back and will aggressively pursue the return of any Greyhound if it’s in the wrong place. They are socialized so that their presence alone advertises our dedication to adjusting them to a life in a home, as opposed to spending 90% of their days muzzled and in a crate.

I don’t keep track of the money and time I put into my love of Greyhounds, as it would not be a true measure of what is in my heart. The adoption fee is not for profit, but ensures the quality of each of their lives after retiring from racing, and before being placed with their own dedicated “forever homes.” I cherish each one when they arrive and deeply mourn each one when they leave this earth.

I am not ashamed of who I am. I rescue Greyhounds, and am proud of what I do and what we stand for. The incredible volunteers I have the pleasure to be associated with are the heart and soul of Hi-Speed Hounds. Greyhounds cannot speak, so we shall be their voice. As Mother Teresa once quoted: We can do no great things, only small things with great love.

If you can’t adopt a greyhound, please think about helping us in other ways to save these dogs.
