Greyhound Rescue – Winnipeg Manitoba Canada

Home / Adoption / New Arrivals Spring 2009

The 15 Greyhounds shown here arrived on Sunday, May 31/09 from the Dairyland Racetrack in Wisconsin.

These dogs were transported to Winnipeg in three vans with about 5 dogs per van. None of these dogs were fixed upon arrival, and were used to spending about 23 hours per day in a crate; not in close quarters, bumping into each other. After 16+ hours on the road from Wisconsin, their stress levels were high. Sometimes the females even go into heat while in transition. As you can only imagine, they are wearing muzzles during their trip for their own protection. Their skin is very thin and they have no undercoat; injuries can occur quite easily, even when just playing.
